Talks Between the United States And China Are Expected - What We Know

United States President Joe Biden has stated that he will talk with the People's Republic of China within the next ten days. AP news states that it will happen this Thursday. This meeting might have been instigated due to House Speaker Nanci Pelosi considering a visit to Taiwan. Officials are warning Pelosi about the risks of this visit. The tensions between Taiwan and China are palpable, making officials in the White House worry about Pelosi's possible trip to Taiwan.

U.S. officials show concern over China showing aggressive steps to assert its authority over Taiwan. The war in Ukraine is only heightening those worries. Beijing has warned that it will take "forceful measures" if Pelosi is to visit Taiwan. Biden was told by U.S. military officials that Pelosi visiting Taiwan as of right now is "not a good idea."

Pelosi's reasoning for her visit to Taiwan was that "it's important for us to show support for Taiwan."

Talks between Biden and Xi could include the nuclear program in North Korea and reviving the Iran nuclear deal, as well as the tariffs imposed on China by the United States and the war efforts between the two countries in Ukraine.

Spokesperson of National Security for the White House John Kirby says, "... there's also issues where we believe cooperation is not only possible but mandatory, for instance on climate change, which affects us greatly."

U.S. diplomat Daniel Russel said, "We are in a high-risk moment, and it behooves leaders in both countries to tread carefully."

We await further news.
