On September 18, 2022, U.S. President Joe Biden declared in an interview that the Covid-19 pandemic is over. He mentioned one of the brief reasons that "no one is wearing masks." He does not seem to believe COVID has disappeared but states the situation has improved. So has it actually ended?
According to the National Institutes of Health, a pandemic is an epidemic that spreads across many large human populations, like across countries or continents. In late January 2022, the COVID pandemic peaked globally, with over 3.6 million reported cases. Since then, the number has decreased to around 400 thousand reported cases. According to NPR, however, many cases go unreported, so these official numbers may not be reliable. Dr. Anthony Fauci admits that the COVID situation has improved but believes that we should not be living with the virus.
Fauci, Chief Medical Advisor to the President of the United States, asks, "Are we going to be able to eliminate it from our country or from most of the world?" He mentions that death tolls are still over 400, although less than last year. He also mentions that "only 67% of our population is vaccinated."
We await further news.
